Alex Smith and Chiefs starters will play first half, Jamaal Charles won’t play vs. Rams

The Kansas City Chiefs first team is expected to play approximately the first half in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, Andy Reid told reporters this afternoon (via 610 Sports) . That first team will include QB Alex Smith and WR Jeremy Maclin (groin) who are both expected to play. Andy Reid said that RB Jamaal Charles will not play despite coming off the PUP list this week.

The Chiefs second team will take the third quarter — that includes Nick Foles. The third team will take the fourth quarter. I’m not sure how Aaron Murray and Kevin Hogan will split that up.

The injured players not expected to play include LB Josh Mauga, RB Charcandrick West and QB Tyler Bray. Reid said that LB Dezman Moses could play and that CB Phillip Gaines likely wouldn’t play. They’ll make those final decisions on game day.

With West potentially out, the Chiefs could see first team snaps for Knile Davis or Darrin Reaves alongside Spencer Ware. The same goes for the pass rushers with Justin Houston, Tamba Hali and potentially Dezman Moses not playing.
