A few months ago we shared video of long jumper working out for the Kansas City Chiefs. And we didn’t realize it at the time but Henderson was one of the players trying out for the Chiefs at their rookie minicamp.
That long jumper, Jeff Henderson, won gold in Rio. How cool is that?
“Congratulations to Jeff Henderson for winning a gold medal in the long jump at Rio,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on Monday. “He was with us during the offseason and we’re proud of him for bringing home the gold.”
Henderson worked out for a Chiefs scout in March and came back in May for the rookie minicamp tryout. He worked out as a receiver. The workout video shows clear athleticism (obviously) but he would need some work on his hands. That 4.33 speed though...
“He was trying to do two jobs,” Reid said. “If he decided he wanted to go all football now, I think probably that would help him as far as catching the football more – having more time to do that.”
One news report from a few weeks ago said he would work out for the Chiefs again after the Olympics so we’ll see if that actually happens.
Also, I can say that an Olympic gold medal winner has tweeted one of our stories.
