The Kansas City Chiefs trying to extend Dontari Poe before the season wasn’t really on my radar but apparently they have talked. This according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora who says while they have talked it’s unlikely they strike a deal before the season.
Talks between the Chiefs and Dontari Poe haven't really gone anywhere. Very doubtful something done before season

I didn’t realize there was a chance it could happen before the season. Of course we all know he’s entering a contract year so we will have this talk by free agency in March. The Chiefs could be facing the franchise tag decision of Poe vs. Eric Berry if they don’t sign either one to a long-term deal.
I talked to Poe last week over the phone and he said the contract talks won’t be a distraction.
"You gotta understand, people get good contracts because they play good,” Poe said. “So if you play good, it takes care of itself. As long as I focus on that and keep my mind focused on doing what I gotta do on the field, the finances will take care of itself. That’s as simple as you can put it. You start running the scenarios in your head and you forget the most important thing which is playing ball."
