Last week we highlighted Pete Prisco of CBS Sports’ pick for the Kansas City Chiefs most overrated player. He chose Dontari Poe. I can see why he chose that but I don’t agree that he is overrated. The Chiefs defensive line was recently ranked 12th in the league, which is too low. The whole group is apparently underrated.
If you could guess the Chiefs most overrated player, there’s a good shot you could guess the most underrated, too. The most underrated is Jaye Howard, according to Prisco.
He is a power player who is coming off his best season, which is why the team re-signed him as a free agent. He isn't going to wow you with his numbers, but he is good against the run and can push the pocket.
Howard was a 2012 fourth round pick by the Seahawks, who cut him after one year. The Chiefs swiped him off the waiver wire on roster cut weekend 2013. His playing time increased each year culminating in his 2015 season which set the stage for a $10 million free agent contract with the Chiefs this offseason.
The Chiefs are a good and deep team because they hit on players like Howard. From that same waiver wire weekend they got Ron Parker, who signed his own five-year extension already.
