Chiefs chances of signing Eric Berry pegged at 50 percent

What are the odds the Kansas City Chiefs will sign Eric Berry to a long-term deal before Friday’s deadline?

If Jason La Canfora is taking your bet, it’s 50 percent.

La Canfora went through all the franchise tagged players and gave his assessment of how likely it is to get done. With Berry, he pegs it at 50-50.

And, the Chiefs have been very willing to reward their own under the Andy Reid/John Dorsey regime, setting new standards of pay at various positions the past few years. Which is why, even though that has dragged out this far, I'd never say never. Berry has expressed his surprise that things have in fact played out the way they have, but he also added recently "a lot can change for whenever the deadline is.”

A year ago the Chiefs got a record deal done with Justin Houston hours before his franchise tag deadline; perhaps history repeats.

Earlier we went and looked back at Justin Houston’s negotiations last year. With months of reports of little progress, days before the deadline came new reports that the two sides were inching closer and eventually a deal was struck. Chiefs fans can hope that this is a similar situation taking place here.
