The first thing everyone said when the Chiefs drafted Tyreek Hill ... OK, the second thing everyone said when the Chiefs drafted Tyreek Hill was that he looks an awful lot like De’Anthony Thomas.
Each of their strengths are in the return game on special teams. On offense, they’re both a little undersized but DAT’s strength has been operating around the line of scrimmage on packaged plays. It looks like Hill is pretty similar to that, perhaps with more receiving ability. Hill is a little taller (5’10 vs. 5’8) and heavier (185 pounds vs. 176). You get the picture.
Just don't tell DAT, who spoke to the media this week, that he and “the rookie” are similar players.
"I feel like I’m a lot different," DAT said. "I’m just me. I’m De’Anthony. I feel like I’m a lot different than the rookie. Look at my film, look at what I’ve done, look at my past.”
I can’t blame DAT for thinking that. It’s important to believe in yourself and have some confidence. It's not easy making it to the NFL and staying here for two years so he should hold that above “the rookie”.
That said ... they ARE similar players. Adam Teicher suggested recently it’s unlikely they're both on the roster, which means they’re probably competing for one spot. I would agree with that. I would agree with that. I would also agree with the idea that the Chiefs probably wouldn’t have drafted Hill if they were sure DAT was going to make it.
