So long Paul Fanaika, we hardly knew ye.
The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly cut offensive lineman Paul Fanaika. Friend of the site Herbie Teope of Chiefs Digest is confirming the news. Herbie reports Fanaika was asked to take a pay cut.
He was signed to a three-year deal last year but went on injured reserve before the season started. We penciled him in as an option this year but since he didn't play last year we had no idea what he could do. And now we'll never know what he can do in KC.
Fanaika was at a crowded guard position for the Chiefs. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was there last year and is a decent bet right now to start next season, at least until the draft comes and roster cuts are made in August. The Chiefs lost Jeff Allen so that left guard position needs to be filled. I like Jah Reid as a consideration with his small sample size at guard last year.
I wouldn't call this cut a surprise but it's notable because we talked about him as an option next season.
