The Kansas City Chiefs can have 30 prospects in for a visit to their facility and it's being reported by Tony Pauline that one of those visits will be or has been used on Vanderbilt LB Stephen Weatherly who is considered a mid to late round pick.
Weatherly sounds like someone who has physical skills that could translate into the NFL. His NFL.com Draft profile indicates he has some potential but has a little ways to go:
Weatherly has the size and overall length to intrigue NFL teams as a developmental prospect, but he will need additional work to become a more competitive pass rusher off the edge. If he can add functional strength while maintaining his closing burst, he may have a role as a backup strongside OLB in a 3-4 with a shot at competing as an eventual starter.
The Chiefs looked at the physical characteristics of non-traditional players like Efe Obada and Demetrius Harris and projected what they could do in the NFL. It sounds like to some degree that's the case with Weatherly as well. Pass rusher is important enough that I have no qualms about dropping picks on them at any point in the draft.
