2016 NFL mock draft: Oakland Raiders add another cornerback in round one

With the 14th pick in the 2016 Arrowhead Pride mock draft, Raiders GM R2J selects...

On March 10, 2016, at 4:49 AM, news broke that the Oakland Raiders obtained the services of one Sean Smith...

Prisons in Northern California rejoiced, Saints agonized, and the better player, Eric Berry was RIGHTFULLY retained.

(Ummm... Mr. Berry... While we're on the subject, what do you think about this Saints guy?)

Anyway! The Raiders got their guy, right? The jubilation they must have felt that they were able to pick up a "Shutdown Cornerback" after years of some of the worst cornerback play in the league...I mean that guy was up for four hours to RED that! (So close, yet so far.)

But as the Raiders representative in the 2016 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, I can't allow myself to turn a blind eye to the truth...

And the truth is that the Buffalo Bills are on the Raiders schedule in 2016. Yeah, the same Bills who have Sammy Watkins. And surely we all remember what happened the last time Sean Smith saw Sammy Watkins. Sean certainly remembers.

Because bad news, Sean Smith supporters. Sean Smith is NOT a shutdown cornerback. Never has been and never will be. So with that in mind...

With the 14th pick in the 2016 AP Mock Draft...The Oakland Raiders select...

Houston CB Wiliam Jackson III

NCAA Football: Vanderbilt at Houston Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Ah yes! The apple (not Eli) of the Chiefs fan's eye.

With great height (6'0") and speed (4.37 40 yard dash), William Jackson III could be the final piece to the Raiders incredible string of off-season acquisitions. Jackson has a lot of the tools needed to be one of the better cornerbacks in the league. Sweet backpedal and acceleration, WJ3 has the "feel" for the game that a corner needs to play the position effectively.

Here Jackson uses his physicality to work on a smaller WR. The quarterback takes a chance anyway (despite the lack of separation), and WJ3 makes the pick.

Jackson could be super physical when it counts.

His speed is blinding!

Coincidentally NFL.com compares him to one Phillip Gaines. See, like Gaines, "Will Jack" is lanky as heck! And will need really put in some time in the weight room. Might need to have dinner every night with that huge offensive line that the Raider fanbase keeps clamoring about. Jackson may have issues at the point of contact, especially if put in press coverage. Could be susceptible to bigger WRs in the league.

But with that said, WJ3 is probably the real deal and it shows when you watch "the tape", which is why he is the player Chiefs fans are hoping to draft in a couple weeks. So, Raider fans should be very happy with this mock pick. Surely Sean Smith will be... He'll go from Marcus Peters to William Jackson III. QBs will spend the season testing a the rookie, meanwhile the ignorance of some will continue to prosper while they consider Sean Smith a "shutdown corner".
