Mike DeVito indicated a few months ago that he still wanted to play in the NFL. Instead he has just announced his retirement after nine seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs and Jets.
When there was talk of him still playing after last season, I said that he still has a role in the NFL because he is a good run stuffer. My argument that he can still be effective against the run is helped by this chart from Pro Football Focus which shows he was still a good run blocker this late in his career.

Over the long run it's probably better for the Chiefs if they give some more playing time to younger players Nick Williams, Rakeem Nunez-Roches but DeVito could've helped the Chiefs next season.
