Chiefs await Sean Smith news after John Dorsey's big run in free agency

UPDATESean Smith to ... Oakland!

Hell of a run for Kansas City Chiefs GM John Dorsey in this free agency period. In just a few hours reports have emerged that the Chiefs inked OT Mitch Schwartz to a five-year dealLB Derrick Johnson to a three-year deal and DL Jaye Howard to a two-year deal. This on top of already tagging Eric Berry and re-signing Tamba Hali.

So, what does Dorsey have in store for us next? Perhaps some Sean Smith....

I would've been happy with the free agents signed already. Adding Sean Smith would make this one of the better free agent runs I've seen in a while. If the quality of the team or continuity matters at all, the Chiefs should have a leg up. Additionally, the Chiefs secondary really seemed to take to Smith as a leader.

Of course, it has to make sense financially. There is a salary cap and the Chiefs can only spend so much money. I haven't seen the breakdowns of any of these recent signings so I don't really know where the Chiefs stand from a cap standpoint. They can massage these cap numbers but at some point they'll have to pay as they learned with Tamba Hali.

For now we await Sean Smith. Cornerback remains the Chiefs biggest need now. Will he go to Oakland? Kansas City? The ever elusive mystery team?
