Derrick Johnson returns to Chiefs with 3-year deal

There was some hubbub about the Kansas City Chiefs looking at other free agent inside linebackers but it always made too much sense for the Chiefs to bring Derrick Johnson back. Indeed, the Chiefs agreed and have agreed to a three-year deal with him, according to the KC Star's Terez Paylor.

Boom. I didn't stress this one a whole lot because GM John Dorsey said they wanted to bring DJ back and DJ himself said he wants to be a Chief. These things tend to happen when both sides say stuff like that.

DJ returns for three more seasons and I truly believe he can play all three of those seasons even though he is 33 years old right now. He has not shown his age yet and talked recently about cutting weight as he gets older in order to stay effective. He understands his body and how to prepare for the league. Given how he responded to an Achilles injury in his 30s, I'm confident he can play this out.

Along with Tamba Hali's recent three-year deal, it's good to be a veteran linebacker for the Chiefs right now.
