Chiefs' Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware get the same deal

Here's something interesting: the Kansas City Chiefs gave Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West the same contract. At least that's according to this report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport which was confirmed by the KC Star's Terez Paylor.

Huh. That's interesting. It's not a bad idea, is it? I mean, there are only so many carries to go around. If Jamaal Charles is healthy and getting most of the carries, how do Ware and West fit in? I really don't know the answer to that. I'm not sure that the Chiefs do either as it's really early. That will be one of the big things that we're talking about this offseason. (... yeah, a "big thing" we talk about this offseason is how the second and third backs are ranked ... yeah, the Chiefs are a pretty good team)

Jamaal's deal runs through 2017. Let's say he leaves after that. The Chiefs would have West and Ware under contract for one more season as theirs runs through the 2018 season. I really like the way the Chiefs have set this up. Regardless of how they play with Jamaal, if Jamaal does go down the Chiefs have capable replacements. So basically they're able to replace who we think is the best player on the team. That's a good thing.
