NFL free agency rumors: Geoff Schwartz linked to the Dolphins

New, comments

A familiar face is back on the free agent list. For Chiefs fans hoping for a reunion, it unfortunately looks like Geoff Schwartz could be headed in a different direction.

The former Chiefs guard filled in admirably as a versatile option along the offensive line back in 2013. When he hit free agency after signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Schwartz found more money with the New York Giants. Sadly, he experienced a number of injuries that kept him from making the same impact as he did in Kansas City.

Schwartz is, once again, a free agent and coming off of a couple disappointing seasons, it's possible he's a strong buy-low option. The Chiefs have seen his abilities up close and personal and might lose yet another versatile player in Jeff Allen via free agency. Some fans have said in the comments here and on Twitter that a Schwartz reunion could be nice. The Miami Dolphins, however, are thinking the same.

Dorsey likely already made his move late in the season when he identified Jah Reid as the versatile veteran he wants alongside his own developmental talent like Zach Fulton and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. However, the Chiefs had all of these along with Allen this past season and, at season's end, were down to their last healthy linemen. That's the attrition of the NFL season.

Count me among those who hope Schwartz is still open to other, more familiar locations. It was a lot of fun to watch him here the first time. I can't imagine the Miami barbecue compares to Kansas City, Geoff.
