Mel Kiper has released his second 2016 NFL mock draft of the season and he has the Kansas City Chiefs addressing the defensive line with DE Jihad Ward out of Illinois.
"Another player who has risen on my board over the past month, Ward is a first-rounder because of his versatility as a lineman who can set the edge and also move inside," Kiper said. "Ward has exceptional physical traits and is a high-ceiling talent because he's still just figuring things out and could be coached up into a truly special player."
This is the second consecutive mock draft for Kiper where he picks a defensive lineman for the Chiefs (UCLA DT Kenny Clark in the first one).
I don't know much about these specific players yet but I do see two of the Chiefs biggest needs being defensive line and cornerback, depending on how things shake out in free agency. If the Chiefs lose both Jaye Howard and Mike DeVito, there's a giant hole along the defensive line. Additionally, Dontari Poe is entering his contract year so it would be smart for the Chiefs to be prepared for what could happen down the road.
