Ever since Doug Pederson left the Kansas City Chiefs for the Philadelphia Eagles, there has been chatter that the Eagles could make a run at Chiefs QB Chase Daniel, who is set to be a free agent in March.
I didn't know if that was just a rumor folks were talking about or if it was actually a thing. As it turns out, it might be a thing.
Sam Bradford is scheduled to be a free agent in March.
Daniel signed a lucrative deal in Kansas City (for a backup) which tells you what Andy Reid thinks of him. Alex Smith stayed mostly healthy the past two seasons so Daniel only had two starts -- the final game of the 2013 and 2014 season.
I like Chase Daniel a lot. Although he didn't play, I always felt like the Chiefs had a better-than-average backup should something happen to Smith. It would clearly be a risk for the Eagles to sign him because he has attempted just 77 passes in his seven-year career. However, Pederson would know him as well as anyone after working with him for the last three years.
I'm not sold on Chase Daniel as a franchise type quarterback but if you're looking for a quarterback in free agency - they don't come along very often - you could do a lot worse.
As for the Chiefs backup, it looks like Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray for now. Both are under contract next season.
