According to the New Orleans Times Picayune, McKnight and the shooter had an argument of some kind before he was shot in an intersection. Per a witness:
A witness, who declined to give her name, said she was leaving a store in the area when she saw a man at the intersection yelling at another man, who was trying to apologize. The man who was yelling shot the other man more than once, she said.
McKnight, 28, was a local football hero from the area who went on to be a star at the University of Southern California before being a fourth-round pick in the NFL Draft.
McKnight played a single season for the Chiefs in 2014, his final season in the NFL. He caught 6 passes that season for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also played three seasons with the New York Jets. He played this last season in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
