Chiefs cut CB Terrance Mitchell, opening a roster spot for ... Justin Houston?

Justin Houston is practicing but he does not count against the 53-man roster at the moment. That will end this week when the Chiefs will have to activate him and make room for him on the roster. It appears the Chiefs are starting to do that because CB Terrance Mitchell has been cut, opening up a roster spot.

I can’t say for certain this is for Houston but it would be odd timing if not.

Houston may or may not actually play this weekend. The past three weeks Andy Reid has indicated early in the week that Houston will not play. This week he said we’ll see. If and when Houston does play, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chiefs work him back in slowly. Give him a few weeks to get up to speed. The first step though is making room for him on the roster.
