The Kansas City Chiefs will have Alex Smith this weekend against the Carolina Panthers. Andy Reid said that Alex was fine all week and will start on Sunday in Carolina.
“He’ll be back in as long as there’s no setbacks here,” Reid said.
That’s what we expected to hear. The Sunday morning pregame shows all reported the Chiefs expected Alex back in there next week. And here we are.
Meanwhile, Justin Houston is a question mark. The Chiefs plan to activate him this week but have not said yet whether he will play this weekend against the Panthers, which would be his first game of the year.
“We’ll see,” Reid said. “We’ll see how he does this week. He’ll let me know on that how he feels.”
This response is notable because it’s different than what he’s said before. In the previous three weeks since Houston started practicing Reid more or less ruled him out as the week started. Not so this week. He’s leaving the door open.
On Spencer Ware, Reid said that there is a chance Ware, who had a concussion, could play this weekend. Reid actually used the words “good chance” but Ware has yet to pass the protocol. He’ll need to do that to play.
Finally, Reid didn’t have much of an update on Jeremy Maclin, who left the game with a groin injury. He admitted that he could miss this weekend’s game but generally seemed like he didn’t know whether he would be available.
