Why the Chiefs didn’t call up Darrin Reaves from the practice squad

Throughout this week we suggested that the Kansas City Chiefs could call up running back Darrin Reaves from the practice squad. The Chiefs never did that. Why not?

As it turns out, the Chiefs aren’t calling him up because of an injury.

“He tweaked his groin,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “It was bad timing because he’s a pretty good little player. He tweaked that thing, so we didn’t have an opportunity to bring him up.”

That sucks. Reaves had a decent amount of work in the preseason with 39 carries and seven catches over four games. He didn’t make the initial roster but this week with Spencer Ware and Jamaal Charles out he seemed like a lock to be called up. Instead the Chiefs will look to Charcandrick West and Bishop Sankey to carry them in the run game.
