This Broncos game is why the Chiefs have Mitch Schwartz

There is a story line we probably didn’t talk about enough this week and that’s Chiefs RT Mitch Schwartz against Broncos pass rusher Von Miller.

Schwartz’s performance (as a Brown) against Miller and the Broncos last season is a reason why he cashed in with a big free agent contract. Schwartz gave Miller his worst game of the season last year.

PFF remembers Schwartz vs. Miller last year:

Last season Von Miller played in 19 games. He tallied 105 total pressures in those games, or 5.5 per game. Against the Browns that week, he notched only three, and just one against Schwartz

...

It was by far Miller’s worst pass-rushing grade of the season, and one of just two games in which he was held without either a sack or hit — and in the other one he notched seven hurries.

It’s not fair to expect Schwartz to win every battle against arguably the top pass rusher in the NFL. However, if he can merely stop Miller from wrecking the game completely, he will show his worth.
