With the awful news regarding the shooting death of James Winchester’s father, the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for the possibility that Winchester, the Chiefs long snapper, won’t be on the field on Sunday.
Andy Reid spoke earlier this week and he said James needed to be with his family, which he is now. The Chiefs don’t know whether he’ll be back before Sunday’s game against the Bucs. If he’s not, it will be Travis Kelce taking his spot.
ST coach Dave Toub says TE Travis Kelce likely backup at long snapper if James Winchester unavailable Sunday.— Matt Derrick (@mattderrick) November 17, 2016
Anthony Sherman was mentioned as a possibility by Andy Reid earlier this week but special teams coach Dave Toub told reporters it would likely be Kelce. I haven’t even thought about the long snapper position since last year which is a sign that Winchester is pretty good. We should know more this weekend about the plan for Sunday.
