To say things didn’t go well for DJ White on Sunday night would be an understatement. The Kansas City Chiefs rookie cornerback was targeted six times by Ben Roethlisberger. All six balls were caught for 95 yards and two touchdowns. PFF has it as a perfect passer rating when DJ White was targeted. There was also this play where White got turned around and allowed a touchdown, which the NBC broadcast team was nice enough to highlight.

Yikes. It kind of reminded me of Marcus Cooper his rookie year who seemed like a different player after Peyton Manning lit him up one game.

How will DJ White respond?

“DJ is going to be OK,” Chiefs DB coach Al Harris said on Monday. “He is a young guy, no excuses. If he’s out there, I expect him to be just like a starter. That’s the mentality we have: next man up. We have to watch the tape and let it soak in a little bit. He’ll come back fine.”

White was a sixth round pick who had actually been pretty impressive so far this offseason. I’m hoping one bad game isn’t going to stick with him. Big Ben is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he was teeing off on a Chiefs defense that knew the game was over. DJ White has to get over this one. There was no way he could win on Sunday night.
