"Any time I'm in the game I know they're coming my way," White said. "A rookie corner? You know where the ball is going. I know it, I expect it."
This may be too forgiving, or too soft, but I want to hold back judgment on the defense until we see what it looks like with Houston. I'll keep saying this — he will be the best midseason acquisition of any team in the NFL. The Chiefs have other things to clean up — Tamba Hali can't line up in the neutral zone like that, and Dee Ford still needs to be more consistent, among other things — but Houston will cover up a lot of mistakes. He'll make average teammates better, and good teammates very good.
But in the meantime, yeah. Can't complain too much about the defense.
For Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, throwing the football has been a pretty normal occurrence so far this season. He ranks second in the NFL with 276 passing attempts so far this season. Luck has completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,074 yards with 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
"I commend him for his professionalism," said Chiefs' running back Spencer Ware. "With taking in everything from those packages and stuff like that, it's tough on a rookie. I know myself from playing two positions coming into the NFL, but he's doing a very good job and I'm excited to see more from him. He's helped us out a lot this year."
The Saints' quarterback lined up in shotgun with two receivers to his right and three (tight end near the offensive line) to his left. The Chiefs rushed four defenders. RG Jahri Evans allowed DT Jaye Howard to beat him one-on-one on an inside move. Howard charged into Brees' face as he unloaded the football to Willie Snead. The Saints' wideout ran a seam route with Berry spying him well off the line. Berry timed his approach well and popped the ball away from Snead and into the air. Sorenson plucked the fluttering football out of the air and returned it for a score.
I fear the Chiefs more. But I fear the Broncos most — because of their secondary, of the impending return of outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware and because of their offensive potential. The Broncos’ DBs have made a habit of shutting down opponents’ top receivers and the defense has allowed a league-low 175 passing yards per game this season, a significant improvement over their 199.6 last year. With a more balanced and reliable offense, these Broncos could be even better.
Since 1990, only eight teams have made the playoffs after starting 1-4. A year ago, however, the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans both did it after incredible runs. The Chiefs won 10 of their last 11 games to grab a wild-card spot. The Texans won the AFC South by winning eight of their last 11. Which of the 14 teams currently under .500 this season are most likely to get hot and go on a run?
The Texans auditioned former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Dezman Moses, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.
"It’s crazy how I almost closed the door on football before the Chiefs called," Barnes said through his official Facebook page. "Thank you God for always looking out."
The contest will mark the 21st all-time meeting between the teams in the regular season, with the Colts holding a 12-8 advantage. The game will feature a re-match of the 2013 AFC Wild Card game on Jan. 4, 2014 which Indianapolis won, 45-44.
