Jeremy Maclin has a terrific response to Jack Del Rio’s “gimmicky” comments

New, comments

A couple of Kansas City Chiefs players heard the postgame comments from Raiders coach Jack Del Rio. To refresh, here’s what Del Rio had to say after the game:

“Good football player, little underrated. If he’s gotta rely on throwing the ball, really not his strong suit. But if you allow them to run the ball and do some of their gimmicky things then he comes to life. That’s what they were able to do today.”

The classic “say something nice before something not so nice” maneuver. A close cousin of the “no offense but...” line.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith was asked about the word gimmicky.

“To be honest, I have no idea what he’s referring to,” Alex said via quotes from the Chiefs. “I just know that we won and that’s all I really care about. You’d have to ask him -- I’m not even sure what he was referring to. I felt like we came out and played physical. To be honest, I felt like we even won the battle up front and I don’t know what was ‘gimmicky’ about that.”

That’s about as controversial as Alex gets which is not very controversial. Jeremy Maclin was short and to the point in his response.

“Well, we whooped them the last three times we played them so I don’t really care what he has to say personally,” Maclin told Bob Fescoe on 610 Sports.

He’s not wrong!
