Chiefs put Allen Bailey, Justin March on IR, promote Ramik Wilson

I step outside for a few minutes to hang with the now eight month old heir to the Arrowhead Pride Empire and we have a bunch of Kansas City Chiefs news.

The Chiefs have placed DE Allen Bailey and LB Justin March on IR. Bailey’s injury we knew about and was warned it could be season-ending. March’s we didn’t know about so that must’ve happened on Sunday in Oakland where he did play. It was a hand injury for March. I’m not sure if either are slated to potentially return this year on short term IR. Here are the details on that.

The Chiefs signed four players to the active roster. One was a new player: DE Kendall Reyes. The other three were old friends on the practice squad: CB Terrance Mitchell, DE Rakeem Nunez-Roches and LB Ramik Wilson.

The Chiefs also cut Nick Williams. That’s a bit of a surprise as he was in the rotation on the defensive line. I wonder if he could be headed to the practice squad.

Whew. That’s a lot going on. These are big losses but the Chiefs do have some capable replacements as well. The Chiefs already go five deep along the defensive line so Chris Jones can expect more work along with Reyes and Nunez-Roches.

At inside linebacker, it’s not ideal to lose now your second starter (in addition to Josh Mauga) but bringing back a guy who has a couple years in your system in Ramik Wilson could be worse. The Chiefs also have DJ Alexander and Sam Barrington to consider there. (Update: I forgot about Sio Moore, signed a few weeks ago, as a candidate)

The Chiefs do need more cornerback help with Phillip Gaines tweaking his knee again. No word on how that will affect the rest of his season if at all.

The Chiefs also formally announced the Knile Davis trade to Green Bay.
