We have some good news with Justin Houston but it’s not yet great news. The Kansas City Chiefs say that doctors have cleared Justin Houston for football activities.
However, Houston won’t be playing this weekend. He remains on the PUP list this week.
The Chiefs can bring Houston back as early as Monday - after his sixth week of PUP. Once they decide to have him practice, the Chiefs then have a three week window to decide to activate him to the 53-man roster.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. This is all still fluid. The Chiefs have been extremely cautious with Jamaal Charles and his ACL so I imagine they’re going to be cautious with Houston too. They could bring him back to practice for a few weeks before playing him. In fact, I would probably expect that.
This is good news but he’s not back yet. An ESPN report a few weeks ago said the Chiefs were targeting a November return. The KC Star’s Terez Paylor said this week that he thought the Chiefs were privately optimistic about his rehab.
