The Kansas City Chiefs come off the bye and begin preparing for the Oakland Raiders. The first question I have is similar to the past few weeks: What are the Chiefs going to do with Jamaal Charles?
He saw his first game action last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Charcandrick West was hurt so Jamaal was in the game, although I’m not sure if West’s injury was the sole reason Jamaal played.
A couple of factors are at play here.
First, what is West’s status? This probably factors into what the Chiefs do a little bit. Maybe Jamaal is playing no matter what but perhaps his total snaps depend on West’s status.
Second, how did Jamaal handle last week’s game? He didn’t play much. He had a series in the first quarter and then had to come back in later after sitting for a while. Did he come back to the facility the next day and look fine? If so maybe the Chiefs are ready to proceed with giving him more work.
My guess with the way the Chiefs have handled it so far is that they remain cautious and continue to give him a few more reps each week. It was 10 snaps last week. Maybe it’s 15 this week in Oakland.
And, oh hey, it’s Oakland this week. You think Jamaal wants to play in this game?
