The Kansas City Chiefs have a player of the week. The NFL announced that Chiefs rookie LB DJ Alexander has been named the AFC special teams player of the week.
The big reason he's winning this award is for blocking a punt against the Raiders last week. The Chiefs were close on multiple attempts early in the game and then Alexander, who has been a good special teams player this year, broke through and blocked the punt. The Chiefs got a safety, which helped them beat the Raiders for their 10th straight win.
What's crazy is that all of this almost didn't happen. Alexander took a hard hit early in the game and had to be checked for a concussion. I just assumed at that point that he would be done for the game but the doctors cleared him and he was back out there a short time later.
Congrats to Alexander, his first career player of the week award.
