The Kansas City Chiefs five-year contract with Travis Kelce is now official. Kelce hopped on the phone for a conference call with the Kansas City media this afternoon and when he asked how his week was going he said, "I'm living the dream, literally."
Indeed he is. Kelce is in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl signing a $46 million extension a day after his reality TV dating show (which he didn't want to discuss) was announced. He said that he has to come to the reality that he is a multimillionaire now.
On top of all that, he has been named the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City's 2015 Role Model of the year.
"And I got to hug my Mom today," Kelce said from Hawaii.
Kelce said that with this extension comes more responsibility. He knows Andy Reid isn't going to let up on him. This is obviously important but he never really struck me as someone who would take the money and run.
He said that he loves Kansas City because it's a blue-collar town like the one he grew up in and the city embraces the Chiefs and the Royals.
Jeremy Maclin, who signed his own five-year deal last year, was among the first Chiefs teammates to reach out to him.
The other big Kelce news this week was the reality TV dating show on E!, which he didn't want to talk about.
"Right now I'm just trying to stay focused on signing and keeping everything going in Kansas City," Kelce said. "I'd rather not get into the TV show. I'm going to let that play out and let it be what it is. I'm just happy right now to be with my family and friends and my teammates and coaches to celebrate a moment like this."
