Danny Amendola has been fined for his hit on Jamell Fleming in the Kansas City Chiefs loss to the New England Patriots, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports. He will appeal. I wonder if that's good enough for Fleming, who wondered if Amendola should be suspended.
The Patriots have maintained that it was a legal hit but the NFL has now penalized and fined Amendola, which tells you what they think about it.
I really don't know the specifics of the penalty but the eye test tells you it was a dangerous hit that should not be allowed. Fleming was blindsided as Amendola went high with what appeared to be the front of his helmet leading the way.
The Chiefs were down 7-3 at the time of the hit after stopping the Patriots on two straight possessions. It seems that the hit sparked a fire under the Patriots rather than the Chiefs as New England marched down the field and scored to take a two score lead. It didn't feel like the Chiefs were truly in the game after that point.
