The Kansas City Chiefs have a number of free agents to be concerned about now that their season is over. Free agency starts on March 9 and the Chiefs will be busy leading up to that date as they deal with potential free agents like Eric Berry, Derrick Johnson, Sean Smith and Tamba Hali.
Each free agent deserves its own deep dive, which we will do as the offseason goes along. For now, here's a list of all the Chiefs unrestricted free agents (as I know them). I did not include exclusive or restricted free agents like Charcandrick West because the Chiefs can control their rights if they want.
The Chiefs have plenty of cap space as of now ($31 million, according to Over The Cap) but that will change quickly as they re-sign their own players and sign other free agents. Every year it seems the Chiefs sign a couple of free agents that end up being key players.
The other part of this is the NFL Draft. The Chiefs had four draft picks this year that were regular contributors all year long (Marcus Peters, Mitch Morse, Chris Conley, DJ Alexander). James O'Shaughnessy would've been if he wasn't hurt. Steven Nelson and Ramik Wilson had their roles here and there and will potentially have a larger role next year. Even sixth round pick Rakeem Nunez-Roches rotated in at times. The Chiefs will be adding plenty of players via the draft.
With the below list of free agents, don't forget about Tamba Hali. He is not technically a free agent right now but his contract was structured so that it will void after the Super Bowl. He will, effectively, be a free agent.
