WR Fred Williams among Kansas City Chiefs roster cuts

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Arguably the most intriguing position battle for the Kansas City Chiefs was at receiver and whether Fred Williams would make the team. Per Herbie Teope of Chiefs Digest, Williams has been cut.

So I am guessing that Frankie Hammond is likely to make the team then -- if the Chiefs are keeping six receivers. But we haven't heard either way on Hammond.

Williams was the Chiefs leading receiver in the preseason with three touchdowns. Plenty of fans thought he should have made the team and he's the reason why we wondered whether the Chiefs could keep seven receivers. Apparently that's not the case.

Williams could be picked up by another team. I believe he showed enough in preseason to be given a shot by someone. If he clears waivers, the Chiefs could bring him back to the practice squad.

UPDATE: Adam Teicher reports the plan is to bring him back to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
