Chris Ault is known as the father of the pistol offense from his time at Nevada and for the past two years he has been an offensive consultant for the Kansas City Chiefs. It appears that time is now done as Ault has moved on to coach football in Italy.
The Reno Gazette-Journal is reporting this news:
Ault resigned at Nevada after the 2012 season and has been an offensive consultant for the Kansas City Chiefs the last two seasons. He was approached by four European teams last season but wanted to finish out his contract with the Chiefs, which ran through May. The Rhinos Milano approached Ault about coaching their team a couple of weeks ago and the deal was hammered out shortly after.
The Chiefs don't make consultants like Ault available to the media so, like Brad Childress, we really didn't have any idea what he did. However, the Chiefs did incorporate some pistol elements into their offense in the past two years. I really like the idea of taking someone smart like Ault and figuring out what he knows that can possibly help an NFL team. That's how coaches can stay ahead of the curve.
