We won't notice the Kansas City Chiefs long snapper until they make a mistake but the Chiefs have a position battle going on between two long snappers: Andrew East and James Winchester.
East is the one who just got engaged to Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson at a Cubs game. Winchester was signed to the team in March. So far, they're even.
"They're really close," Toub said this week. "I think both of them are NFL-caliber guys, there's no question. Which is a good thing for us because we're going to pick the best one. It's going to take a while, I think we're looking at at least two preseason games, I'm guessing, before we really know. We need to get some good live reps; you try to mimic that as best as you can here, but you really can't."
The Chiefs went through a long snapper battle last season, which was won by Thomas Gafford. It was around this time last year that Toub admitted that Gafford was ahead. However, the battle is apparently much closer this year.
The Chiefs will pick a long snapper and we probably won't even remember who it is -- until they make a mistake. Get this one right, Chiefs.
