When I wrote our training camp preview for the Kansas City Chiefs running backs I said that if it came down to choosing between Cyrus Gray and Charcandrick West that I would take Gray due to his special teams ability.
And then the Chiefs went ahead and cut Gray last week.
That leaves West seemingly in the best position to be the team's third running back behind Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. Consider the following with the Chiefs backs:
- RB Keshawn Hill spent time with the team in OTAs but he was cut.
- While it's a nice story, LaVance Taylor lasted three days (he's the one who tweeted at the Chiefs).
- Darrin Reaves, 2014 UDFA out of UAB, was just signed to replace Taylor.
- Spencer Ware, who was signed early this offseason, is basically an unknown.
- De'Anthony Thomas will probably be playing more receiver this year.
So who among these players is beating out Charcandrick West and claiming the third running back job? Anyone? Bueller? I'm not handing him the job just yet but he has to be considered the favorite at that final spot.
