The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Arizona Cardinals 34-19 on Saturday night in Arizona. Find the game stats here. Let's see what we learned....
Jeff Allen (knee), Knile Davis (knee), De'Anthony Thomas (calf) leave with injuries
No word yet on the severity of any of them. Allen would be the biggest loss as he's in the running for a starting job at either guard or tackle. This is probably the most important takeaway from the game. We need to know what the story is with all three of these players.
Eric Berry played on the second team
It was very cool to see him out there. We will get a better idea of his role this year as the preseason rolls on but check out this photo. Photo of the year.

Chase Daniel, Fred Williams and Charcandrick West shine ... but especially Chase Daniel
I mean, check out these stats:
- Chase Daniel: 17-of-21, 189 yards, three TDs
- Fred Williams: Six catches, 82 yards, one TD
- Charcandrick West: Six rushes, 49 yards; 3 catches, 43 yards
Daniel looked really good. Granted, he was facing the Cardinals second and third teamers but his decisiveness was noticeable. I continue to feel confident with him as a backup quarterback.
Love how Chase Daniel executes this #Chiefs offense. Quick, decisive, confident, efficient. And he has done it in a game that matters...too.

Somebody loves August: C. Daniel Wk 1 of the #NFL preseason in '14: 8-10, 126 yds; Wk 1 of preseason in '15: 13-16, 145 yds. KC, 17-10, H.

One story line you'll probably hear from fans this preseason: Chiefs should trade Chase Daniel
The Jets lost Geno Smith to that broken jaw. He will be out 6-10 weeks. Daniel played well. So the obvious story line here is that the Chiefs should trade Daniel to the Jets. He's entering the final year of his contract so it makes some sense. That said, he has been a good backup for the Chiefs. If they need him this season, they'll be glad they kept him. It would just depend on the offer in this hypothetical. It just takes one injury to Alex to change everything.
How the Chiefs first team performed
Alex Smith completed 6-of-10 passes for 42 yards and one interception. It looked like just a bad pass on the interception where Jason Avant was the target. Jeremy Maclin had one catch for 12 yards.
The Chiefs first team offense had three drives. They ended with an interception, punt and field goal.
The Chiefs faced Carson Palmer for just one drive but it was a good one for Arizona. Palmer went 4-for-4 for 77 yards and scored a touchdown.
Chiefs WRs catch THREE touchdown passes
Yeah, yeah, it's not the regular season but Chase Daniel threw three touchdown passes to receivers: Fred Williams, Frankie Hammond and DaRon Brown.

First team offensive line
LT Eric Fisher, LG Ben Grubbs, C Mitch Morse, RG Zach Fulton, RT Jeff Allen
When Allen left with an injury, Stephenson stepped in at RT.
Marcus Peters era starts early
Sean Smith played with the second team since he is facing that three game suspension to start the season. So Peters started for the Chiefs. Expect the same come Week 1.
More observations
On the first play, Alex Smith went deeep to Jeremy Maclin ... but it was incomplete.
Alex Smith threw an interception and made the tackle on the same play.

Ramik Wilson caught a tipped ball and nearly scored a touchdown on the return.
Safety on Aaron Murray. He had no shot. Dude was on him a second after he turned around after play action fake.

Chiefs UDFA DL David Irving tipped a field goal causing it to fall short.
Fred Williams danced.

Rough series for Sanders Commings, who had a pass interference call and was in on a play that went for a big Cardinals gain.
