It's July and there is no football which means we have some time to fill. Which also means we must rank the quarterbacks in this slow time.
Sports Illustrated's Andy Benoit ranked every quarterback in the league in a list you can see here.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith comes in at No. 18, which is three spots ahead of the quarterback who replaced him in San Francisco (that would be Colin Kaepernick). He is two spots ahead of Bengals QB Andy Dalton and one spot ahead of Raiders QB Derek Carr, who seems to be ranked very high. In fact, Benoit says the Raiders have found their franchise quarterback. Hmm.

One spot ahead of Alex Smith is Bears QB Jay Cutler. I would take Alex over Cutler 100 times out of 100, never mind Cutler's excellent arm strength. It's an impossible task to ask your fan base to root for that guy.
A few other observations on the list:
- Matt Cassel is ranked 32nd. I mean, unfortunately, that's probably not far off.
- Teddy Bridgewater is 23rd, which seem really low for him. He's better than that.
- Russell Wilson is ranked 12th. That seems way too low. Way too low.
- Eli Manning is ranked 11th. That seems way too high.
