Kansas City Chiefs sign a cornerback with their open roster spot

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

With an open roster spot the Kansas City Chiefs signed CB Kenneth Penny to the roster, according to the NFL's transactions report.

Penny's name should be familiar to those Chiefs fans who keep a close eye on the roster. He tried out with the team during OTAs and showed enough to be signed in June. However, the Chiefs cut him in July when they signed DB Kevin Short after the Supplemental Draft.

The Chiefs apparently like him enough to bring him back for camp to see what he can do. Plus, you can't have enough corners during training camp.

The Chiefs had an open roster spot after cutting DB Justin Cox last week. With the news that Dontari Poe is injured, there's likely to be another open roster spot if he goes on the PUP list. So one of those spots will be going to Penny while the other will be going to a safety you might know named Eric freakin' Berry.
