Chiefs' Sanders Commings lost a cousin in the South Carolina shooting

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The tragedy in South Carolina this week affected Kansas City Chiefs safety Sanders Commings, who tweeted out this picture of his cousin. Reverend Clementa Pinckney, Commings' cousin, was one of nine killed in the senseless shooting in Charleston.

Commings did practice on Thursday, which was their last before training camp.

The Chiefs confirmed Pinckney was a cousin.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sanders Commings and his family," Chiefs coach Andy Reid opened his Thursday comments to the press. "His cousin was a preacher in South Carolina, Charleston there, that was shot and killed, so we're grieving for him and his family."

Pinckney was the reverend at the church. The New York Times wrote an entire article on him, which is worth reading whether he was related to Commings or not. Sounds like we lost a good one.
