NFL odds have Chiefs 2nd in AFC West, behind Broncos but ahead of Chargers

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are the pick to finish second in the AFC West behind the Denver Broncos but ahead of the San Diego Chargers (and, oh yeah, the Oakland Raiders are still in the AFC West). This according to 2015 NFL odds released by Bovada.

The Chiefs odds placing them second in the AFC West is what I expected. The Broncos are the clear favorite as they should be considering KC has yet to beat the Peyton Manning-led Broncos. They're still the best team in the division. The Chiefs are closing the gap with their offseason moves. I don't think the Chiefs are a 13-win team but 10 or 11 wins? That feels very possible right about now. Nine wins still seems like a safe bet for this team.

Then there are the AFC conference odds below, where these odds have the Chiefs as the ninth best team in the AFC. That seems ... a little low? The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins are two teams ahead of the Chiefs that jump out at me. Like the Chiefs, they'll need to prove that they're ready for the next step.
