Chiefs' Jamaal Charles says post-Achilles injury Derrick Johnson has been dunking the ball

Isaiah Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson was back on the field on Tuesday after tearing his Achilles last September. It's impossible to tell too much about a player's injury when they're in shorts and a helmet but the reports on DJ were very positive.

"I've been training with DJ this whole offseason, so he's been up to speed fast," Chiefs RB and fellow Longhorn Jamaal Charles told the media, via quotes from the Chiefs. "He is itching to get back out on the field, so I'm just excited for him to be back out on the field. I've been telling him he's been looking good since I've been working out with him ever since March. He's been dunking the ball, that's surprising with an Achilles. So with him coming back, we're going to need him this year for sure. We're playing against a lot of good teams this year."

Nick Jacobs of Time Warner Cable Metro Sports caught this action shot of DJ working out.

As for the man himself, DJ says he has no restrictions.

"Yes, no restrictions," DJ said. "A lot of people asked me, "You ready to go today?", and I was more so worried about dropping a ball when I jump a route, that's what I was worried about."

DJ has a terrific work ethic and hasn't historically been injured regularly so I think we're closer to our best case scenario outlook on his injury than the worst case.
