Lifelong Chiefs fan De'Vante Bausby opens some eyes at rookie minicamp

One of the early favorites at the Kansas City Chiefs rookie minicamp is Pittsburg State CB De'Vante Bausby. At 6'2 and 180 pounds his size stands out as does his experience playing press coverage.

Most importantly, he grew up a Chiefs fan at Hogan Prep Academy, not far from Arrowhead Stadium and even closer to the Arrowhead Pride world headquarters. His Chiefs fandom is something Andy Reid mentioned on Saturday when talking to the media.

"He's a huge Chiefs fan and we noticed that during our workout here for the locals," Reid said, via quotes from the Chiefs. "That's when we saw him. Then he comes in and cranks out like a 4.35 and does the drills well. So we said, ‘Come out, we'll give you a shot here and see what you can do.' So he's doing it. He's having an opportunity."

Since Bausby is from KC and went to college just a couple of hours away, the Chiefs had the upper hand when convincing him to sign as an undrafted free agent.

"We thought he was going to come here if he didn't get drafted," Reid said. "We thought we'd have a pretty good shot at it. He's an energetic kid if you ever have a chance to talk to him. He's got a nice personality to him. He's a smart kid. He got a degree in something good in the business department. He's a pretty sharp kid."

The Chiefs had three undrafted free agents make the team last year. There's a loooong way to go but he's one of the early contenders to open some eyes this year.

One way to tell that he has a good story? Almost all the local media wrote about him after day one.
