Jamaal Charles is so good that a "down year" for him is 1,300 total yards and averaging give yards per carry. But a down year it was for Jamaal in 2014, who ended up with 1,033 yards rushing, nine rushing touchdowns and five receiving touchdowns.
Those numbers led to Jamaal going from No. 11 on Pro Football Focus' list of the best 101 players in 2013 to No. 97 on the list for 2014. These numbers are for 2014 only -- nothing before that matters for this list.
By his high standards something of a drop-off, and he certainly wasn't helped by a line that had many, many problems. But Charles, even in a down year, was still worth a spot so good he is. Still behind a patch work line averaged 5.1 yards per carry with a healthy 539 yards coming after contact. Sixth-highest rushing grade on the year of all running backs.
Charles had a slow start to the season with just 23 rushing yards through the first three weeks. He rebounded to put up respectable numbers. PFF has his best game as the one against Seattle where he rushed for 159 yards.
There are many teams who would take a performance like that from their running back. For Jamaal, it's a step down.
