Why did the Kansas City Chiefs select CB Marcus Peters with the 18th overall pick?
"I'm told the Chiefs viewed Marcus Peters as the best, pure, more complete cornerback on the board," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on the air following the Chiefs pick. ESPN's Jon Gruden also thought of Peters as the best cornerback in the draft.
Peters was kicked off his college team at Washington so that's a big red flag. Rapoport reported that the Washington staff "crushed" Peters when the Chiefs staff spoke to him. But former Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, now the coach at USC, had "rave reviews" on Peters, according to Rapoport.
Chiefs officials conducted mid-week secret-mission trip to OAK to visit Marcus Peters. Liked what they heard.

The Chiefs will have Hall of Famer Emmitt Thomas coaching him in the defensive backfield. Also, this guy:
Don't underestimate the value of Al Harris on the development of Marcus Peters w/@KCChiefs . Can't get a better teacher of bump & run tech
