Tyvon Branch has a great reason for signing with the Kansas City Chiefs

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Tyvon Branch has moved from the bad guys to the good guys. In Kansas City, that's known as going from the Raiders to the Chiefs.

Branch was among those Chiefs players made available to the media at the first day of the offseason program on Monday and Adam Teicher asked him what interested him about the Chiefs. He gave a great answer:

"[Justin] Houston and Tamba Hali. Whenever you can play behind a pass rush like that you jump at the opportunity."

Awesome. And very true. The Chiefs secondary last season was terrific and the pass rush played a major role in that. Sean Smith and Phillip Gaines had solid years last year at corner and Ron Parker got paid. If that pass rush is similar to what it is last year and he is healthy, Branch has a good shot at having a good season.

A few more things from Branch's media session:

  • Branch, who had his season ended early the last two years, said he is "feeling great" and that he's back where he wants to be physically.
  • The Chiefs have yet to sign a nickel corner to replace Chris Owens but that role could go to Branch, who said his nickel cover skills haven't gone anywhere.
  • Bob Sutton told Branch that he has to be versatile and as a safety he has to be able to play every position. Branch also noticed that a lot of defensive backs play in Sutton's defense.
