The Kansas City Chiefs have already made aggressive moves along the offensive line this offseason signing Paul Fanaika and trading for Ben Grubbs. One KC Chiefs player wants them to do even more.
Jamaal Charles tells the Dave Skretta of the (other) AP that he wants the Chiefs to address the offensive line in the draft.
"I definitely want them to address that, Charles told Skretta. "I'm not a GM, so I can't do that job. But it was challenging last year playing with guys -- some got hurt, some got suspended. So it was hard playing. I never knew how crucial it was to my career that I needed linemen."
Is anyone surprised the running back wants more offensive linemen? It's like the quarterback who wants more receivers to throw to or the pass rusher who wants a defensive lineman to create lanes for him.
Despite what happened last year, the Chiefs had more continuity on the line than most. This year, there will be multiple changes on the line. LG Mike McGlynn, C Rodney Hudson and RT Ryan Harris are gone and new starters will replace them. There could also be a new starter at RG depending on what happens with the competition between Zach Fulton (who started last year) and free agent signee Paul Fanaika. So that's the potential of four new offensive line starters in 2015.
The Chiefs could indeed address the o-line in the draft, too. Whether that's with the 18th overall pick or another one in the later rounds, I do expect the Chiefs to address the o-line in some fashion so Jamaal will get his wish.
