We're only a few hours away from likely seeing Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson and DE Mike DeVito with my own two eyes. DJ and / or DeVito could be made available to the media this afternoon as the Chiefs offseason program starts today.
DJ and DeVito tore his Achilles in Week 1 last year and they have been rehabbing ever since. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said a while back that they were pushing each other and recovering from their injuries well. DJ has posted some Instragram videos that show he is moving well.
Phase one of the Chiefs offseason program starts today and is just strength and conditioning. The real question with DJ and DeVito is if they'll be available when the players hit the field and start having something resembling more of a regular practice in the third phase of the offseason (May and June).
There was never any question the Chiefs would take DJ back but DeVito needed to take a pay cut to come back. The Chiefs run defense struggled last year without those two but it should be better in 2015 if they're back.
Both players are on the wrong side of 30 so until real football gets here we won't know if they're truly back. The offseason program is mandatory but I would expect both players to be there today when it begins.
