Kansas City Chiefs free agency earns 'C' grade from ESPN

Despite the fact that the offseason can still yield free agent signings, including June 1 cuts, and rookies will push veterans off rosters, ESPN recently compiled grades for free agent classes for each NFL team. A panel of Mike Sando, Field Yates, Matt Williamson, Louis Riddick and former NFL GM Bill Polian weighed in to create each grade with rundowns for each team.

The only team that earned an all-around "A" was the Green Bay Packers, who pretty much remained in a cave and simply refused to let their best players leave (e.g. Randall Cobb, Bryan Bulaga). As for the Chiefs, they were given a "C". Per the story:

There were no strong feelings on Kansas City one way or the other. Keeping Hali at a reduced rate made sense. Maclin was a logical addition even though the price was high. Adding Grubbs helps, but there were still concerns over the offensive line.

"I still do not think the offensive line is close to where it should be," Williamson said. "Maclin is a huge signing and a massive upgrade from Bowe even though I do not see him as a true No. 1 receiver. They had to keep Houston. I would say they are a better football team."

The Chiefs rivals all earned better grades in free agency. The Raiders scored a B and the Broncos and Chargers each earned a "B-".
