The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent Tyvon Branch and re-signed safety Ron Parker, which didn't leave much room for any more safety signings this early in free agency. It's with that context that we pass along this report from the Charlotte Observer, which the Panthers have since confirmed:
#Panthers expected to sign free agent safety Kurt Coleman. Formerly with the Chiefs.

Coleman came to the Chiefs last season and carved out a nice role for himself in their subpackages. He is someone that I thought the Chiefs would want to bring back -- at the right price, of course.
The Chiefs will play plenty with three safeties on the field. For now, that looks like Husain Abdullah, Ron Parker and Tyvon Branch.
I am currently working on the recap of the Chiefs first week in free agency so I have this list of the Chiefs unsigned free agents handy:
G Mike McGlynn
DT Kevin Vickerson
OL Jeff Linkenbach
CB Chris Owens
LS Thomas Gafford
RT Ryan Harris
RB Joe McKnight
